Why Should I Apply?

Even if you receive veterans’ benefits, you are still likely eligible for federal student financial aid.  We encourage all student-veterans to complete the FAFSA online to determine whether you are eligible for any additional aid in the form of grants, scholarships, and loans.

Some helpful tips as you think about financing your education beyond the GI Bill®:

  • How much does it cost to attend OSU?  Visit the Student Financial Aid Cost of Attendance guide for current year estimates and more information.

  • OSU’s Financial aid website explains step by step how federal financial aid works, and you can even use their online calculator to estimate your possible financial aid.

  • Your military service may enable you to be considered an independent student. If you are considered independent, you do not need to provide information about your parents on the FAFSA.  To help determine your status follow this link: Am I Dependent or Independent?  You may also contact Buckeyelink at: email:  buckeyelink@osu.edu or phone:  614-292-0300.

  • The ROTC as well as community-based veterans’ service organizations do offer a variety of scholarships to military connected students.  For specific information, please contact Buckeyelink at: email:  buckeyelink@osu.edu or phone:  614-292-0300.
