Give Veterans a Smile 2017
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry hosted its first ever "Give Veterans a Smile" this past Veterans Day week. The college provided free dental screening exams for over 20 Ohio State student veterans, at no charge. Patients came from every branch of service and had diverse dental needs that were addressed with over 100 x-rays taken and customized treatment plans created for each veteran. The atmosphere was one of mutual respect and community, as our faculty, staff, and student providers listened to patients' stories and shared military experiences of their own. The intangible centerpiece of the event was the spirit of camaraderie and support that was pervasive throughout both evenings.
A special thanks to Dean Patrick Lloyd, Dr. Fonda Robinson, and Dr. Stanley Sharples for empowering the event and working with the College of Dentistry's Armed Forces Club to make it a success. Financial support and sponsorship came through the generous donation of Bank of America. Efforts from countless staff, faculty, and students at the College of Dentistry and the Office of Military and Veteran's Services helped make the event a success. Thank you all for helping to "Give Veterans a Smile," and honoring veterans' service to the country!
